Upcoming Movie: Due Date

"I'm bored. Want to make a movie?" "Yeah, sure."

In a stroke of cosmic irony, while YAMB has been falling into disrepair, the world has apparently decided to recognize our contribution. After writing an article about a girl road trip with our favorite actresses, Warner Bros. comes out with a movie that’s basically the same thing only with men. Due Date, coming out November 5, is a movie about a father-to-be who needs to get across the country to attend the birth of his child, but his only way to get there is via road trip. And it’s going to be awesome.

The main character, the overstressed parental wannabe, is played by Robert Downey Jr., which really doesn’t require any further explanation. Downey Junior’s charm and, let’s face it, raw attractiveness would already make this road trip movie worth watching, but it gets better. The partner he’s forced to ride with is an obnoxiously silly out-of-work actor played by Zach Galifianakis, of The Hangover fame. So the movie is basically Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis on a road trip. Seriously, they took our idea and used the most attractive and amusing men instead of women.

Wait, hold up. You mean I could've had Zooey as my costar?

And then to follow it up, there will be various other hilarious actors popping in, including Jamie Foxx as what appears to be RDJ’s old friend who drives a beat up pickup truck. Nice. Plus, Danny McBride (Hot Rod, upcoming Your Highness) also jumps in as what appears from the trailer to be some type of redneck the dynamic duo bumps into on their journey from sea to shining sea.

But besides the premise that sounds eerily like it was ripped off from a MTSBM somewhere, the movie looks to be genuinely hilarious. Robby DJ and Zach Galifianakis are already hilarious just to watch, but put together and with at least a few genuinely funny lines, (in the trailer, anyway) this movie could easily be the next Hangover. It’s certainly off to a nice start with lines like “I despise who you are on a cellular level.” This could well be one of the few really genuinely funny movies of the year, and I can’t wait.

Death and Glory,

  1. Saw this opening night. It didn't have as much of the raunchy humor as the Hangover, but was still offensive in it's own way. You see RDJ get high, punch a kid, spit on a dog, etc. Zach Galifianakis was his normal not-very-normal self. A lot of the funny lines from the trailer are funnier in context, and they are definitely not the funniest moments of the movie. I would say not quite the same humor as The Hangover, and definitely had more depth to it than The Hangover. Excellent movie.

  2. No mention of the John Hughes film "Planes, Trains, and, Automobiles" that it's ripping off? I wanted to know how you think it'll compare.
